It all started when…
…Andrew Park wanted to play the musical saw, but thanks to his mother he now plays the cello. Music has always surrounded Andrew. Whether he was falling asleep to his mother’s Chopin, envying his brother’s Jimi Hendrix like impromptus, or watching his father play the great classics with the Toronto Symphony, all his life, Andrew, has been fascinated by performance and intrigued by the processes of creating art…
…and then…
…thanks to many mentors and communities, he’s explored a wide variety of genres. When moving to Calgary to study at the Mount Royal Conservatory and University of Calgary he taught at the Chinook School of Music as a private instructor and at the Mount Royal Conservatory as a chamber music coach and early-childhood education assistant. As a youth he was a soloist with the Humberside Symphony Orchestra in Toronto and New York, found an escape in rock music as a drummer and vocalist, and learned to express his innermost feelings through songwriting, poetry, and dance. Now, he combines the sounds he finds inspiring and pushes the fold to improve all his practices.
As a chamber musician Andrew co-founded the Walden Trio, a piano trio formed with friends from the Mount Royal Conservatory. Together they toured Canada, the United States, Mexico, and Norway.
In 2016 he performed with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra in their RBC Concerto Competition. And, since then he has played in numerous festivals and competitions across Canada such as the Canadian Music Competition and Stratford Festival.
With the Pro Musica’s Young Artist Development Program (YADP) Andrew has given numerous presentations and workshops in the Calgary Public School System and more recently in the Toronto District School Board with the Aurum String Quartet - the inaugural resident string quartet at the University of Toronto.
As a composer and arranger, he blends classical and popular music with a flare of Latin Jazz, R&B and Folk. Andrew holds a masters degree in cello performance with a minor in composition at the University of Toronto, a bachelor’s degree in music performance from the University of Calgary and a performance diploma from the Mount Royal Conservatory.
Viral sensation Strings From Paris (sFp), which Andrew is a co-founder of, has now performed with pop icon Charlotte Cardin during the stadium round of her world tour. Andrew has also performed with hip-hop legend Lauryn Hill during her 2024 Toronto stadium performance. And this June sFp toured the United States and Canada with rap icon Russ during his 2024 North American Tour.
sFp will have their third annual summer showcase on July 20th, 2024 at Brickworks in Toronto’s Don Valley.
Andrew plays on an 1850 Belgian Jean Baptiste Vuillaume copy and is an active of member of TMA-149 subbing with professional orchestras in Ontario from the Toronto Symphony Orchestra to the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra.
Andrew currently resides in Toronto’s Casa Loma area and makes seasonal trips to western Canada. His debut album “Paradise Lost” has been in the works since 2020.
